Thank you to everyone around the world who walked for Post-Intensive Care Syndrome during the month of September 2024.

In total, close to 1,000 people walked to raise awareness of PICS and celebrate survivorship, either at one of 14 host sites or at home with family or friends.

Stay tuned for next year’s International Walk 4PICS

Of those who survive critical illness, many experience Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS)—a collection of new or worsening impairments in the cognitive, physical, or mental health realm after a stay in the ICU1.

5,000,000
patients are admitted annually to U.S. intensive care units (ICUs)2.
80%
of patients who are mechanically ventilated experience delirium3

We have organized a simple walk of any number of miles to challenge our bodies while raising awareness of this complicated syndrome. Individuals can walk anywhere in the world, either on their own or with loved ones. It is our desire that every ICU survivor living with PICS knows they are not alone and that there is hope and support for their journey.

If you can’t walk on September 28, walk on any day in September. Walk wherever you are for as far as you are able.
